My Mother is Isinay

The municipality of Dupax del Sur is located behind

Monument of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

    This is my mother's hometown. A place where everything begins, that in my life I felt a sense of having a place like home in my mother's old neighborhood in Domang, located in the name "Dupax" del Sur comes from the Isinai word "dopaj".

    ISINAI tribe or isinai-bird they called, (also spelled Isinay) referring to both their original spoken language are a small ethnic group and the native people of Aritao, Bambang, and Dupax del Sur dialect living in the municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya, as well as in Quirino province. Shows the numbers decrease, with just around few individuals on record losing their community’s practices across the entire country.

However, there might be members who are trying their best to keep their practices intact and preserve the culture save the threatened language to keep from extinction, as well as their traditions.

i.e of the isinay words;

 "I am an Isinay"  is  "Isinaya"

 "Thank you very much"  is  "Salamat podda."

    As the Spanish conquistadores came to secure their foothold on their local lands in the 16th century, the Isinai communities became one of the first witnesses and victims of the fight. However, as centuries came and passed, the people remained alive with their own practices of the colorful cultural treasures they kept from their ancestors.

    My mother's childhood experiences are exciting and inspiring things within this hometown, where she used to tell us stories here..during the day, when the sun is sweltering and around the moon light of the evening before sleeping time.

    and this Abanatan creek down there is the place where we used to play, do laundry and take a bath when we were kids 😂
    In short distance from the church, you will reach this single old century historical treasure called Dampol bridge which was said that have been assembled at the same time the church was being built by the Isinai and other indigenous groups living in the area.

    Along the road where you could see the Façade of the San Vicente Ferrer Church complex in Dupax del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya has been declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines in July 2001.

    on the side of the statue, you can spot the oldest 'uwes' , the traditional Isinay funeral blanket displayed inside the room

    The parish church is an 18th-century Baroque church located at Brgy. Dopaj, under the advocation of Saint Vincent Ferrer, is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bayombong.

Everyone in this town was very friendly.

Remembering how my amazing adventure begins in here. The very first place I have ever traveled too far since I was little, that we visit frequently during vacation or holidays. An unforgettable memories I will forever cherished the most...and then I realized, adventure is the best way she did teach me to learn and experience everyday in things that opens my mind saying “yes” to new adventures! When I turned 5, I already learn how to commute and go places by myself and begin to take on real responsibilities. My favorite memory from childhood is beginning to develop my independence and developing important real life skills.

Life is short.
